Evolved directly from the original Colt 1911 model, the Colt 1991 Series Combat Commander 1911 Pistol is the industry standard for 1911 style pistols. Able to chamber seven rounds of powerful .45 ACP caliber ammunition, the Colt 1991 Series Combat Commander 1911 Pistol is a very intimidating self defense handgun. i have yet to find a firearm who's quality supercedes that of a colt.i own kimber and springfield.i have never had to send a colt back to the factory for repairs as i have with these other firearms.the former was right out of the box and the push rod broke after 5 rounds! colts just seem to hold value over time better than other brands.

The Colt Commander in .45 ACP is an excellent choice for concealed carry for one who is throughly trained to use it. It is accurate, hits hard and can be completly controlled by almost anyone. It initially intimidates some because it is loud and the recoil is heavier than a 9MM or .40 S&W. However, anyone trained in the 45/45 push pull method of shooting a handgun can control the .45 ACP commander if they can grip it properly. The triger is light at about 4 to 5 pounds and requires the shooter to keep his/her finger out of the trigger well until the decision to shoot has been made. The normal method of carrying is cocked and locked which requires the owner to be completely familiar with the slide lock and how to disengage it in an instant. Massad Ayoob, a recognized authority on the 1911 pistol insists that it is a pistol for experts only. I agree. I never leave home without it.
